First and foremost, I just wanted to say thank you for this forum. It's always the first thing I do when I get into a new hobby, or if I have questions on a particular topic. Forums all over the web, with countless topics, are filled with knowledgeable, helpful people, so thanks. I have a 1999 Ford Taurus with 150k miles and 3L OHC V6. It has been running pretty well. A few months ago it started cutting out, the engine would just die, mostly at stop lights. But I would start the engine and it would be fine. This happened maybe once or twice a month. The stalling became more frequent and would now also happen while driving 50mph down the road. I'd pull over, restart, and it would be fine. I had a mechanic check things out during a ny state inspection, but they couldn't find anything related to this problem. Finally it stalled out, I pulled over to try and restart, but this time it wouldn't. I had to abandon my car for about an hour and when I returned, it did start, but now the check engine light was on. The error code is p0320, which I've researched to probably be related to camshaft or crankshaft sensors. A haynes manual describes it as "Ignition Engine Speed Input Circuit Performance". As a side note, occurring alongside this problem, the RPM gauge moves sporadically, obviously in an exaggerated and inaccurate fashion... but only when the car is in overdrive. When its in just regular drive, the RPM gauge behaves normally, and so far, (with around 8 to 10 test drives of over 10 miles each) has yet to stall while in normal drive. Any suggestions or guidance is greatly appreciated.

How about an engine size here. Don't just say 3.0 because there are 4 of those. We need the 8th digit of the VIN# ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Probably would start by doing a visual inspection of the crank sensor, the connector, and wiring. Make sure that the wiring is good and the strands aren't broken underneath the insulation, especially near the end end of the crank sensor connector. Inspect the crank sensor itself and the terminals inside the connector. Be sure the terminals are tensioned properly inside the connector. Loose terminals can cause an intermittent problem. If everything looks good, your going to need an oscilloscope to watch the waveform from the sensor at the PCM. You probably don't have that type of equipment, so you may have to take it to a shop that does. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
