2004 gmc envoy with code po410

i have a 2004 envoy and the check engine light came on. we replaced the shut off vavle and the light came back on 14 days later. what else can i do? and will it hurt anything to keep driving it? It has about 146 k miles on it.

The "check engine" light is an indicator for a system that monitors many electronic functions in the system, also called the "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL). It can come on for any of hundreds of different causes from any of the systems that the computer monitors. Some are very important and can lead to further component or engine damage and some are emissions related not as serious but still a problem and need to be repaired.
Your first step is to have the computer scanned to retrieve the trouble codes that were set when the check engine light came on. Those codes will give you specific information about what the computer saw and will get you pointed in the right direction to find your problem. With a 1996 or newer and some 95 cars and you have an AutoZone or Advanced auto parts in your area, they will read them for free. Once you have these code numbers, we can be a lot more specific about what your problem may be.

That is a problem with the air pump system. They have a lot of problems with the pump itself but it needs to be diagnosed properly.

It need to be checked by a professional. It's an emission control so it won't have a lot of effect on performance.

the code is " secondary air injection system malfunction". not sure what that means tho.

Basically that means that the O2 sensor didn't switch to lean when the PCM commanded the AIR pump on. The AIR pump sends air/oxygen to the catalyst when the vehicle is first started to get the catalyst up to operating temperatures faster. When the PCM turns on the pump that creates more oxygen in the exhaust which the O2 sensor picks up on. The PCM uses the o2 sensor as feedback to be sure the AIR system is actually pumping air into the exhaust.
The first thing you do when diagnosing that kind of problem is to verify the pump is actually working. The air pump should come on for several seconds when you first start a cold engine. Do you hear it come on?
