2006 Fiat Grande Punto P0074 error Sign In

I just bought a used 2006 fiat grande punto and sometimes i keep getting this code p0074 and engine light comes on, i want to figure my self because mechanics on my town are very limited and dumbo and change a random piece gets ur money and go away, so i noticed that this only happens at night, with my lights turned on and ac and radio, than when the engine light comes up my temp gauge dies for some seconds and i can clearly see a power loss on my mediums lights for about 1 second, than 5 seconds later the gauge comes up to its correct measure again and power loss on lights for 1 second again, than for the rest of my trip it Keeps doing this like 10 in 10 minutes, tnx for any help and sry for my bad English xd

This is a US site for now some ideas that code is all about temperature measuring items I found. Codes in my opinion (IMO) do not mean a specific item as the code could be set by faults from something else.
So with that and the symptoms you mentioned seems like there isn't enough electric amps coming from alternator - know that all items depend on correct voltage within a range to operate - same as non automotive stuff.
This lead my guess to perhaps just a bad belt that can't adjust, needs adjusting or is at the limits of self adjusting. That or slipping from being wet from something leaking.
Go check that NOW!
You just got this car so don't kill it over this you said help was hard to get I'd hate to see this car be ruined right away for you.
If you can also measure voltage and watch it while driving most can thru a power port* or cigarette lighter will show live real voltage. If it drops below 9V or so things won't work properly or at all.
* You might be able to make or buy a tester to do that digital read out or make one out of plain old cord that doesn't alter voltage will need a volt meter hooked up.
Work on things is all about tools and lots of expense in that I'll try still guessing you don't want this for a business so don't make too many costs of tools your expense,

The P0074 is a problem with the outside air temp sensor so I really don't think it has anything to do with engine performance.

This caught my eye in top post. "> only happens at night, with my lights turned on and ac and radio <"

Suggests otherwise this car is fine? Could be that sensor or connections to it or loss of normal voltage too much load for too long with those items above all turned on? Said IDK for sure, Tom

Ambient temp is related to the climate control only, not engine performance.

There are small LED things you push in a cig lighter or power port (same size) gives you live battery voltage while driving. If ports are on when starting (some go out on purpose) you would see it while cranking.

Try things one at a time watch what it does to voltage. All at idle or perhaps 1,500 RPM an alternator should be able to put out max power = AMPs. If not or intermittent that info narrows down what to look for.

If/when voltage is too low all items controlling a car really can't operate proper or send you wrong info or send the engine/trans wrong info will run lousy.

At this model years the sensors make it the best it can be all the time cold, hot, under a load and it regulates the alternator to put out enough power = Amps as said.

If not troubles begin and have rule this in or out,

Those things are LIVE real going on info that does matter. DO NOT LEAVE ONE LIVE they too draw down a battery.

If you think you have a "[parasitic]" drain we can take that on please make a separate thread or look for into here now all about that.

Site is still free for you to use and search within also outside here for now I'm not blaming a part to replace it's usually better to do testing to be sure.

Tom
