This PT Cruizer has rough idle........spark plugs and wires have been replaced. I have checked for fuel leaks and checked every electrical connection i could think of. I know these cars are notorious for their rough idle but i had a computer on it and got this code....P0304, which means a miss in the 4th cylinder in which the explanation for the code was, faulty ignition, vacuum leak, injector fault, and high or low fuel pressure. I ruled out all but the injector on the 4th cylinder because i dont have a clue how to tell if they are bad, if you even can tell. My question is........if the injector is good what are the chances of the problem being a cam positioning sensor or even a burnt valve and if there are any able souls who know what they are talking about please help me out. Thanks

There are a few things that could cause a misfire..... You could 1st try swapping the plug, wire & injector. Do them 1 at a time. If the misfire moves, that's your problem. Also do a compression test, hot & cold to make sure it isn't a mechanical problem. After that it gets a little trickier........

Use stethoscope to here injector pulse that will tell you if injector is pulsing. Also being #4 cylinder i believe they are non-return fuel rail i've herd of dirt and contaminates filling the end of fuel rail to point of blocking off fuel to that injector. This might be your issue if fuel filter has never been changed. Now did it miss before the plugs and wires were changed?

It ran the same as it did before the plugs and wires were changed. I changed the injector to cylinder #3 and I got random cylinder misfire, does that mean the miss followed the injector? Im not sure if the fuel filter was changed at all. I noticed the injector had a black residue in the end on the fuel rail side. The thing is, I cleaned the injector<let it soak overnight> and put it back in and its still the same way. I suppose i will change the injector and hope it fixes the problem. thanks
