Holden Captiva MAF Issue? Sign In

Hi Guys

Ive got a 3.2L V6 2006 Holden captiva and its been a great car, a few weeks ago some lights kept on coming on the dash, so i bought a ELM327 ODBII reader off ebay. Plugged it in and got the error codes from the ECU and reset the codes, a few days later the lights came back on and it was the same error code. P0101, i looked up the error code and found a few guides that could fix the issue.

I went ahead and removed the MAF, sprayed it with electrical cleaner, cleaned the terminals and connectors (with the battery disconnected) let it all dry out and put it back together and a few days later it came back on...

Has anyone else got any other ideas?

Thanks

Adam

I don't know why you would think merely cleaning things would correct an error like that. If the MAF was dirty, you would be getting lean codes, not malfunction codes.
The circuit needs to be troubleshooted thoroughly but may end up being a bad MAF.

Agree with HT on this. We don't know what type of MAF your vehicle is using. Being a Holden it could possibly be the type of MAF that is generating a frequency signal like on most GM vehicles. Circuit would have to be tested to be sure the MAF is getting good power and grounds and sending out the appropriate signals.

Some things you should check for since it is a performance/range problem is to be sure you don't have ripped intake ducting, vent hoses unplugged off the intake ducting, or some type of restriction before the MAF sensor. If the MAF has a diffuser screen, make sure it isn't damaged or being block by trash or stuff in the air filter box.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I checked all the hose's today and all was good

I also found a thread on another forum, and it recommended inspecting the throttle body/plate for dirt build up

And sure enough it was pretty dirty, gave it a clean up with some throttle body cleaner, just took the car out for a 30min run and so far no lights :-)

That dirt may cause idle problems but it's not triggering that code.
