1998 Ford Taurus 3.0/6cylinder 128000 Last week my engine light came on then went off, then would blink some times and then go off. So I stopped by a Autozone and it read a P0300. This was on a Tuesday. Between then and Saturday when I took it to my mechanic it would again come on, blink for a while, turn off and such. They hooked up a more advance machine and nothing, no code no engine light no nothing. When I returned to pick it up and after they had flushed the radiator, I got in, started it up and the engine light came on and stayed on. They again hooked up and this time got a reading that the No. 1 Cylinder wasn't firing correctly and an O2 sensor was showing a lean mix. About a month earlier I had a new cam shaft sensor installed and new plugs and wires installed. The car runs great, I am getting what I consider very good gas milage of about 17-18 mpg in the city. You can feel the engine is just slightly off when you are at idle. So how can I find out what is causing the misfire and what does it mean by running lean?

Lean conditions are usually cause on fords by Mass Air Flow Sensor now take a look at it it might be just dirty and what it does is that tells the PCM that there is not enough air going thru the system and so the PCM starts leaning the car.Spray some carb cleaner to the MAF that usually does the trick.
