I have a 1998 dodge 2500 quad cab pickup with a v-10 . One morning the vehicle would not start . I purchased an OBD-2 with hopes of retrieving some code . I plugged in the OBD-2 and turned on ignition , no code . I then tried turning over the motor to recieve something and again nothing . But what did happen amazed me . The truck started and would only run with OBD-2 engaged . Thanks for any remarks.

Unplug the scanner and turn the ignition on/engine off. Does the check engine light come on? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Is your code reader able to communicate with the engine controller, but there isn't any codes being stored? That is a strange one you have there. Some items you could start by checking are to be sure that your grounds are good. It's possible the computer or CCD bus may have a ground problem and is finding ground through your code reader. Make sure your battery connections are clean and tight and your battery is good. There are some grounds on the engine and body of the vehicle. Inspect them to be sure the are clean and tight. One important ground for the CCD bus and PCM is called G105. G105 is located on the front of the engine below the AC compressor. You are a true genius, I checked the ground under the ac unit and the nut had backed off almost completly. I put a lock nut on the stud and secured the nut, the truck starts and runs perfectly. Cheers Scotchy
