p119f22 ‘Deterioration of the engine oil’ - 2017 Peugeot Boxer Euro 6 2.0 Blue HDi Sign In

Hey guys I’m looking for some advice.

I have a 2017 Peugeot Boxer Euro 6 2.0 Blue HDi 130 (96kw / 130cv).

Last year my partner and I converted this to a camper and spent 3 months on the road in Europe. At the end of the trip we started getting trouble with out DPF and kept going into limp mode. We cleaned the DPF when we got home and it’s been fine since.

We’re about to head out again this year but discovered a small oil leak, so took it to numerous mechanics, all have said it’s very small leak coming from the rear crankshaft oil seal, but not to worry about it(they were all too busy to do the repair).

On advice from one of the mechanics because our oil was low, we topped up our oil with 2lts of 5w30 (Peugeot recommends 0w30), he said this may result in us reducing the amount of oil lost to the leak.

The van had been performing fine up to this point.

On the day we were hitting the road we filled up a full tank of diesel and added some STP DPF cleaning additive with the thought process being we would get ahead of any potential DPF problems we had last year.

About 5 minutes / 3km into our drive after this our engine warning light came on.

Using our diagnostic tool we read the error code p119f22 ‘Deterioration of the engine oil’.

Having read online that multiple DPF regenerations can degrade your oil we assumed the issue could be a hangover from the DPF issue we had last year.

So we performed an oil change and replaced our oil filter, we used 5w30 to fill up because of the recommendation from the mechanic.

Sitting idling on the driveway for 10 to 15 mins all appeared well so we logged the oil change and cleared the fault using our diagnostic tool.

We then decided to take the van out for a drive to check and we got about 300 meters down the road and the engine warning light came on with the same p119f22 ‘Deterioration of the engine oil’ error.

Having read various different things online about being able to use an oil that is 1 grade higher or lower than the recommended I’m a bit lost what to do.

Could using the 5w30 oil instead of 0w30 be the cause of the issue?
Could it be the additive in the fuel tank?

Does anyone have any suggestions, I don’t really want to go out and spend another €100+ on oil if it’s not the issue.
