on a 03 dodge stratus the 2.4 was running rough checked an replaced the coil pack runs better but not like it should. i also read that the computer might be bad with this code comes up as an undefined code po2305 any ideas ty

It's only undefined to the generic code reader that you're using because it's not a Generic code but a factory specific code. SYMPTOM P2305-IGNITION COIL # 2 SECONDARY CIRCUIT-INSUFFICIENT IONIZATION TEST NOTE This symptom is diagnosed using the test P23O2-IGNITION COIL # 1 SECONDARY CIRCUIT-INSUFFICIENT IONIZATION. WHEN MONITORED Engine Running. SET CONDITION If PCM detects that the secondary ignition burn time is incorrect or not present an error is detected. One Trip Fault. POSSIBLE CAUSES - Intermittent condition
- Spark plug
- Ignition wire
- Ignition coil operation
- Ignition coil

i replaced the coil an wires an plugs still throwing the same code??? could the coil be bad even if its new

Not real likely, especially on the same cylinder. You need to find someone that can view secondary ignition waveforms using an oscilloscope to look at the burn times for each cylinder. They should be able to pinpoint which cylinder(s) is having issues. This is a ignition waveform for a particular cylinder. The burn time is the amount of time the spark jumps across the gap once the gap is ionized. You can measure the amount of time using a scope and then compare it to specs. If it falls out of specs, that is your offending cylinder and you need to determine why. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Thats the least likely thing that would do it, and everything else would have to be ruled out first through extensive testing to condemn a PCM. They actually don't fail nearly as often as people think. Your PCM seems to be able to see what is happening. Also rare to have a PCM fail that only will set one code. Usually you get multiple ones.

Ok on this 03 stratus I was not getting spark form number 2 an 3 from the coil checked the signal to the coil none. thought maybe a bad ground again. not really but the wiring has been messed with before traced the wires an everything tested fine with a muti meter to the ecm/pcm took it out took off cover as no signal was caoming from it and a chip is broke in half. dont know why except that the harness had shorted out just enough. what do yall think?????

If you actually see physical damage to a solid state component on a circuit board, more than likely that is a problem that needs to be resolved. Can you take a picture of the broken chip? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

You have to upload your picture into a picture or video hosting site. Then when it is uploaded right click the image and copy link address. If it is photobucket you uploaded into, just hover the mouse over the image and it will pop a box up that you can copy the link. Paste the link, just like you did earlier. Your pictures are above. If that solid state device is cracked and not the potting goo, that might be why your coil isn't firing. The device the screw is pointing to in the picture is a transistor (driver) that may be used to trigger the ground circuit of the 2-3 coil. Either way that PCM is going to have to be replaced if that transistor is indeed damaged. Usually transistors don't crack for no reason. Since it is a ground control device, the real only thing that can hurt something like that is a direct short to power through the ground side of the coil or a shorted coil. Most drivers transistors are protected and will be shut off if there is a short to power, but there is no guarantee of that. If you do go to replace the PCM, make sure you replace the coil as added insurance. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
