Why would you think you have a bent rod?

What do you think bent it?

Ronald; This doesn't sound like a connecting rod problem, but can't rule anything out at this point. Do you have a check engine light on? If so, have the codes retrieved and post them for us. Where does the knocking noise sound like it's coming from? Your engine has a knock sensor that will retard the timing if it 'hears' a knock. Loss of power would be normal if that is happening. We need to determine where the noise is originating. The loss of coolant is disturbing. These engines are known for leaky head gaskets, but don't want to jump to that, yet.
How does the oil look? Take a whiff. Does it smell like gas?

Re: 96' mustang, knocking sound Sign In

I also have a 96 mustang v6 although it is a manual. Did the same thing with the coolant but it did not shake. One day I noticed the knocking and that performance had declined. After a 2 hr trip the oil gauge would behave erratically at idle and the knocking sound was really loud and get louder as i would accelerate. Changed the oil, cut open the old oil filter and found a lot of metal pieces in it. So I am thinking a rod was bent in my car.

chrisv; A rod won't 'unbend' itself. The metallic particals could be from rod or main bearings or virtually anything else. Not good.

If you have metal in you oil and your losing oil pressure after running awhile I bet your oil sump screen is stopping up. Metal is probably bearings
