Hi,

The car is a 1988 Peugeot 205 XS, it has a TU3S engine fed by a twin-choke Solex 32-34 Z2 carburetor which produces 85bhp at 6,400rpm.

The problem is that the car wont start after it's hot(85+ degrees). When i go to work in the morning, or if i let it cool down for at least an hour, it starts normally.

When it's running, i don't notice anything wrong, no noises, misfires or hesitations but if i turn it off, i will have a very hard time trying to get it to start again. I have to pump the gas pedal while cranking the engine for 10 to 20 seconds, then if it starts, it runs very rough(have to keep accelerating or else dies) for another 10 seconds, then it's normal again.

I'm no experienced mechanic or anything, but from what i'v been reading, can it be gas vapors? some feedback would really be appreciated, thanks.

Don't have the vehicle here in the states, so can't really give you detailed information.

What you could do the next time it acts up and doesn't want to start is to remove the air cleaner and look down into the primary bore. Make sure the choke is open. Look at the accelerator pump shooter and open the throttle. You should see a stream of fuel spray down into the bore. If you don't see that, you could have a low float level or the fuel is boiling out of the carb when it sits.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
