I have a Small 1990 Nissan pickup, 4 cyl.. Purchases a few weeks agao, the truck had been sitting up for a few months. Have cahnged the oil, and put in new spark plugs. Gas gauge is questionable. works when it wants. Gave out of gas couple weeks ago, had to put in almost 5 gal just to get it to fire up. ( when I put in 2 gallons, it wouldnt start at all ) So after 5 gal it would crank but keep cutting off. It did finally crank. Today, ran out of gas again ( going to replace gas gauge ), Put appr 6 gal gas in, will crank, run for 30 seconds and cuts off. Am having it towed as we speak. What could be wrong, what should I have looked at first. Am not a mechanic, not all that mechanically gifted either. Please help. Thanks !

Quote ">>Am not a mechanic, not all that mechanically gifted either. Unless the gas you are putting in is leaking right out the supply alone isn't the issue. It cranks, it can run so that much is good news. What you would do is test for problems while it ISN'T running or starting. Generally checking for lack of spark or fuel delivery. If this is worth a damn go ahead and get anything done in the maintenance book for it. Just replace fuel filter with unknowns with the problems you are having should just be a good cheap thing to do anyway and check what kind of junk comes out of old one if anything. If not doing these things yourself tell the tech that does everything you know and have observed already and make your own history starting new now unless somehow everything is already well documented, T
