I have a 1991 pontiac grand am and I was driving it a couple months back and all the sudden sputters then loses all its power and I pull off to the side of the road and it keeps running but if I touch the gas it wants to die then I trailer it back home and try starting it again and it turns over but won't start and after a couple months of sitting I put the battery back in and start it up and it hesitated to start but I tapped the gas a little and it started right up and I drove it around the block and it runs fine but im kinda scared to drive it too far. If someone could please help me out on this id appreciate it. And the car only has a little over 150,000 miles and has never had any engine problems before.

Which engine? Kind of hard to give you advice if it is running good. We also have no way of prophesying when it will fail again. When it does fail again, you should check the basics such as spark, fuel pressure, injector pulse, and compression. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

That would make it a "Quad 4". Is that what it is? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

That's going to make it very difficult to test for spark.

I recall the quad 4 new but one never came my way. New folks complained about noisy timing chains which are metal but real long and if jumping around would be a problem. I'd test compression of even just a couple cylinders to see if it has jumped - compression would be low if so. IDK first hand on that one but it might not be oiled by the engine - not sure. Set looks like this........ I really can't say how subject they are to troubles as absolutely none came my way as said but would be something I'd check out, T
