My truck is a four cylinder the problem started when I was driving down the road and everything was fine when out of the blue it would start running bad, no power, rough idle, then it would start running good again all by itself. I had the fuel filter changed and the problem still occurred. What do you think could be the problem?

I've seen a number of ignition control modules cause that on that particular engine. One half of it burns out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Also check your plug wires and your terminals inside the plug boots. Bad connection or high resistance in the plug wires can cause the secondary voltage to go really high. The voltage is going to try and find it's way to ground and will burn holes through ignition coil housing looking for it. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

You'll need an EEC IV code reader to see if there are any trouble codes stored. Might be an ignition control module code stored in there. This one has eight spark plugs and 4 coils housed in two seperate coil packs. The ignition control module as HT stated controls 4 coils separately and gets it's input from the crank sensor. If you have no spark on the intake or exhaust side on #4 coils, that could mean you have a problem with the ignition control module or a wiring problem on that coil circuit. I'd be suspecting a ignition control module also as HT stated if your wiring looks good. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Should look like this....... Location - Under hood, driver side, lower engine area, mounted on intake manifold assembly. Not real sure but this could pick on one cylinder but possible. Not so sure why some parts already done just lasted a short while either? T
