Is the check engine light coming on at all? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

the connector is under the hood near the master cylinder. It is black and probably says something like EEC-IV on it. You need an OBD-1 scanner with a Ford adapter. There are two tests, KOEO and KOER. They stand for key on, engine off and key on, engine running. The KOER test needs the engine warmed up first. Do the KOEO test first, followed by KOER. That will tell you the codes that are present. With the problems you are having we need those codes or its like walking around a house in the dark.
