I have a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix that used to stall after driving for a while or if left idling. Replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, Ignition Control Module, plugs, wires, and fuel pump relay. Now it will start for about 3 seconds then just dies. Was wondering if it could be either the crankshaft or the camshaft position sensors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Need to add when i run an obd check no codes show up. I realized i did not give very good info, here is a list of things i have replaced or tested on the motor. It is a 3100 SFI I have to work in the open and live in Washington and have to do this between rain stroms. Fuel pressure-good Fuel pump relay-replaced fuel pump-replaced fuel pressure regulator-replaced ICM-replaced Plugs and wires-replaced engine has spark and fuel or so it appears it wants to start afetr disconnecting the battery and leaving it sit to clear the memeory. Starts for just a few seconds then acts like the timing is off tries to start but backfires once in a while. But just cranks over, battery has full charge.

You should start with checking the fuel pressure with a guage. It is possible that the fuel pump relay is pulling in during key on engine off but may not be getting a signal after the engine fires causing it to die. Key on engine off fuel reading should be around 35 psi. If this is ok then start the engine and let it stall. Check the guage. If it is holding at 35 psi the fuel delivery is ok. If the guage is way down, check for spark at the plugs and check for injector pulse by installing a noid light into one of the injector connectors. If there is no spark and no injector pulse, replace crank sensor. If there are different symptoms, post back with the results and we can go further. Steve

i assume its a quad 4? my lil sister had one and i had to replace the cps, and the plug wire assembly(sorry i forgot what the deal is called the holds the plug boots. i cleaned it also). the camshaft position sensor was a real pain in the rear to replace. i would reccomend doing it in a garage. if you have to. like a rock my arse...chevys for life

finally got some dry weather to work in i got no fuel pressure when it placed my gague on it. I have replaced the fuel pump relay and the fuel pressure regulator and a new fuel pump. Still no pressure reading. I tried squirting gas in thru the throttle body but even that didnt start it.

Went to check the crankshaft position sensor which on the 3100 sfi v-6 is located on the firewall side of the engine. I noticed the wire way down looked burned. Got a light and sure enough the clip holding it had come loose and the wire had fallen on the exhaust and burned thru. Simple fix, just had to rotate the motor and get at the sensor from the front of the engine. Thanks for all the help guys got me going in the right direction.
