I have a 1996 Suburban with 292,000 miles; it started running rough last week during idle and acceleration. I thought may be a plug was fouled out? I changed the plugs, but still ran rough! Changed the Dist. cap, rotor and plug wires, still runs rough! When changing the plugs I noticed #2 cylinder plug was dark. All other plugs looked good. Checked compression on #2 and #4, both were good 170#'s. Took it to mechanic yesterday, they checked it out and said all electronics were good and said the next step was to take the intake off and check the Spider fuel injector system? Not for sure if they know exactly what they are doing and not sure what to do? I have had the transmission and rear end, brakes water pump fan, battery, etc all replaced in the last 3-4 years. Is it just too old to invest more money? It was running fine before this. Any help would be much appreciated! Not sure what to do?

The intake doesn't have to be removed to check those. A simple injector balance test & fuel pressure reading would tell them everything they needed to know....
