Hi, my girlfriend has a 1996 buick regal custom with 48000 miles and a 3.1 liter. we have a problem with it cutting out driving it. It never dies but at a very light pedal and floored it runs ok but all the way in between it cuts out. I think it sounds like its wanting to go but just cuts out. its like when its cutting out or hesitating the motor has a light humming like its trying to go. We have had it to the garage alot, today we just put a fuel pump, filter and fuel neck on it. The check engin light is on but the garages say theres nothing wrong. no one seems to be able to figure it out without putting a lot of unneeded parts on it. has anyone dealt with anything like this and can give me some kind of idea what to do, thanks

Unplug the MAF sensor (mass air flow) and take it for a spin to see if that helps.... This will set a code so take note of all codes before doing this.

Ok, thank you for you help. When i disconected them and started out i thought wow, it worked but as i got a few miles out of town and the motor warmed up it was right back to the same thing. I dont know what to think. I am kind of handy working on things and for a carpenter i do understand a good bit about cars but i am lost. Even with a new conveter on the exaust could there be something else in it that would cause this. I cant get over the fact that when your in between the pedal and the motor is barely doing anything, the humming the motor is making just sounds like it really wants to go but but cant. I cant imagine even as old as it is that a car with 49000 miles on it would have major problems like this. Thank you for you help, i appreciate it alot

Are you saying you changed the converter already ? If so at this point you may want to check the timing chain to see if it has skipped a few teeth. Also ,does the tranny up shift down shift ok? LIFE'S SHORT GO FISH

the converter was put on new a year ago and not alot of miles since. I was really wondering about the tranny but some things dont seem like it. i was told by the mechanic that the next thing to try is the fuel pressure regulator for 90 so i went just now and got one for 70. Im really hoping for the best. The mechanic said today hes sure its something little
