1996 pontiac sunfire will not start it has 2.2 ltr engine.
The problem started when going down hiway with cruise control on, disengaged crusie and car died.
Open timimng cover and found chain tensioner destroyed and timiming marks would not line up, thought possibly it had jumped timing. replaced timing chain and gears and when I try to start it, cranks and backfires thru intake but will not start.. Please any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated..thanks for your time

I don't think you have the marks lined up right, and your valve timing is off because of it. I'm not sure if this is an interference motor or not, but perhaps someone else here knows. If so, there may be some valve damage. Verify your timing marks at TDC of #1 and if ok, go a compression test.
