1998 Altima GXE 2.4 HELP!!!!

Altima would not start one day, dead battery. We jumped it and the engine light came on but started right up. Replaced the battery at Autozone and they scanned a problem code 0340, camshaft position sensor. Car starts fine, runs great but the engine light stays on, scanned the computer again and same error. I have been to dealers, parts stores and no one has a part called a camshaft position sensor just a crankshaft position sensor but that sensor does not return a problem code. I am trying to find out what this camshaft sensor is and where it is located. One dealer said it would be $1200 but would not tell me what the problem was. I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes to try and reset the computer but the light just stayed on. Thanks for all the help and I hope someone can give me some direction

I saw this part also when searching but the dealer is saying it does not exist. Do you know where this part is located under the hood? Thanks for your reply

I'm not sure. But I find it hard to think that we would sell a part and be able to get the part if it doesn't exist. If you have some time, maybe dan will be able to post a tech diagram on the location of the camshaft position sensor for your 1998 Altima GXE 2.4. Lets hope he reads this post today. I'll look for some more information as well. I Wasn't able to find anything else. Yet. But you would think that the camshaft position sensor would be around the same location. And in the case of the toyota pdf. It shows it near the timing belt, which seems to make sense. The only issue is I didn't want you to search through the engine for it.

camshaft sensor is inside the distributor. It would be best to replace entire distributor , not just the sensor.
