I have a 1999 Ford Expedition that all of the sudden after filling up. The Check Engine Light came on and it started to run REALLY rough upon acceleration (I think it was acting a little funny just before I filled up). I took it to several auto parts store's to have the code's read and the scanner tool wouldn't connect to my SUV? It has over 200,000 mile's on it and I haven't had any real issues with until now. I'm just not sure where to start?? Any Thought's?? 1999 Ford Expedition 5.7 L V8 200,000 + Mile's 4x4 Thanks Tom

Tom; The engine should be either a 4.6 or 5.4; The CEL may have come on due to loose gas cap, but that wouldn't explain it running rough. The PCM should be OBDII, and should be able to be read, at least, generically. Does the CEL blink, or is it staying on solid? Regardless, you need to get this checked asap, as conveter damage is likely if you let it go. Most independent and all Ford shops should be able to communicate with your PCM unless of course it has taken a dump, but unlikely. If you can get the codes pulled, post them, and we'll see what we can come up with. Loren SW Washington

To add for what it's worth: Had just one come by with TWO vacuum elbows that rotted thru leaking badly enough to hear them underhood. Little molded OE things - I think there are four in all. Would run lousy as all get out with one leaking and smooth right out when you so much as plugged it with your finger. In that more than one was bad I think it's a problem spot for this vehicle, T

Loren, Yea.. Sorry.. that is a 5.4. The CEL doesn't blink it just stays on. When the Auto Parts stores would hook up there scanners it would just come back that the scanner was not connected to the vehicle. It's still drive-able, so I'll take it to a Ford Service Shop and see what they can come up with. Thanks again!

Check to see if the lighter works. The DLC power and cigarette lighter come from the same fuse. If fuse is blown, light will come on and you can not read the PCM. Then you can go to the parts house to read the codes. More than likely you will come up with a cylinder misfire code. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

Thank you!! I checked and I did have a blown fuse. I replaced it and took it over to Advance Auto Parts and they were able to read the code's. It only had one and it was Cylinder 2 Misfire code. Thanks again!
