Why does the idle speed rpm in a 1999 oldsmobile intrigue gx sometimes seem to stick between 1500-2500 rpm while driving or standing at a stop sign?

There is a few things that could cause that. Is the check engine light on? If so get the codes pull 1st and see what systems are being affected

No. The check engine light is not on and does not come on when this happens.

So can you tell me what the next possible problem is?

Did this start happening all at once or over time that you didn't notice? Has anything been done to the engine lately? Has the oil been changed recently and then the prob started? I'm just looking at different possibilities of things that could have happend. Look for vacuum leaks (oil change, leaned on plastic- brittle vacuum line & broke possibly without knowing), idle air control motor could be sticking- needs intake snorkle cleaned, other options that could cause this prob. Other people here may have other suggestions as to what could be going on. Could use more info.

It started happening the week before Christmas. There hasn't been any work done on it lately. Last oil change was about 4K miles ago. I've sprayed throttle body cleaner in the carburator intake to de-gunk it. That hasn't helped. No apparent vacuum leaks or broken lines.
