1999 Pontiac Sunfire 2.2L 180,000 kms Started fine... drove 10 mins to pick up a friend.. turned off car.. and now wont start. When i turn the key No sound at all. The Headlights are on nice and bright all the dash lights come on and i can even listen to the radio. Battery is ok. Doesnt even seem that there is power getting to starter, as it makes no sound at all. Only sound is a faint clicking near the firewall or possibly under dash when the tow truck guy came to pick my car up he used a screw driver to start my car by arcing 2 wires near starter and i drove it home.. im a bit comfused as to what he did.. could someone please explain? any suggestions thanks in advance chris

Chris; The tow truck driver 'jumped' the solenoid on the starter. By doing this, this tells me that the battery and the starter are okay. Is the Pontiac a manual or automatic? If manual trans, the clutch pedal must be depressed to start. Could be a faulty clutch inhibitor switch. If automatic, try starting in neutral. Could be a faulty neutral safety switch. If niether, could be in the ignition switch, itself. Let me know what you find. I can check wiring to see if these circuits are fused, if need be. Loren SW Washington
