2000 Dakota Running Rough & Stalling Sign In

I have a 2000 Dakota 4.7L A/T 4x4 192,000km's. It suddenly started running very terrible. I shut it off running great, ran into the store and came out 5 minutes later. It started no problem but then instantly started running very rough and stalling. I managed to get it home by holding my foot on the gas and brake. I connected my OB tester up and the only code that came up was P0202 Injector circuit/open cylinder 2. I changed the injector, and still the same but found that both injectors are working properly connected to the truck. I've disconnected the battery for 2 days and still no change.
Any idea's.?

You are probably going to want to get a noid light and check injector pulse. Check all the injectors............

Had a mechanic over last night, he checked the wiring, injectors, plugs, catilitic converter, vac leaks, etc... all working properly, he was stumped. Its missing very badly, not just on one cylinder, on multiple cylinders. The only code it has is P0202, even with two or three cylinders off it should still run better than it is.

Re: 2000 Dakota Running Rough & Stalling Sign In

Yea sounds like something is going on with the wiring or PCM..... Some of these problems are real tough to troubleshoot without the right equipment, even with the right stuff it can be tough....

Without a scope or high end scanner I can't think of any real good tests you can run (maybe someone else will come in with some good ideas), it sounds like your buddy has already covered the basic stuff. About the only other thing you could do would be a wiggle test on some of the connecters & harnesses to see if you can spot any trouble areas... Chry did have some connection problems on the JTEC pcms on the trucks. Gently (very gently) wiggle the connecter going to the PCM while the truck is running, any affect on how it runs will let you know something is going on at that spot...

I know it's not much help but that's all I got at this point.........sry

Re: 2000 Dakota Running Rough & Stalling Sign In

Thanks, we did try the wiggle test last night including a new TPS. No change. Everything keeps leading back to the same place, PCM. We both can't understand that, its missing so bad (but not back firing) that the PCM isn't picking up any misfiring. I had an older van that had a dead miss on one cylinder (I believe it was the head gasket) it was a lot older that my Dakota, and it would continually display misfire cylinder one. We rechecked the codes again last night and only one change, it still has the P0202 and now P1768. I'm going to run it over to the local shop, they claim to have the ability to flash PCM's and determine PCM problems. I'll let you know the result.

Found the problem, cylinder two intake valve ring fell off.
Valve job, $300-600, used head $150.
