2000 chevy blazer ls Hello, I have a problem with my 2000 ls blazer. It sat non running for quite some time in Texas due to needing a transmission replacement. That was over a year ago. It was back up and running late last year and I moved to Colorado in April. I have been driving it since. I took it for it's emission test and it failed. Result was high NOX in 3.007. The check engine light was on during the first test but with the second it was out because we found another sensor unplugged, I think it was called the vapor pressure sensor, by the fuel pump. I retested and the same thing, a high NOX again. My next thought is to replace the oxygen sensors. Am I on the right track?? There is no check engine light therefore I do not know which one it may be. I can only find three sensors and not four. When I go to try and buy the sensors I am confused because some are four wire or 3 wire, heated or not????? Can someone help me as I am a woman, who is looking for a job and cannot get one until I have this vehicle up and running. Ha ha, whine whine. lol I appreciate your help in advance! Thanks so much!

Not all codes will trip the light on. I'd get it scanned and post the exact code numbers here. Don't throw out over $400 on oxygen sensors that haven't been tested bad and may not fix the problem. High NOx comes from elevated combustion chamber temps, such as a lean burn condition. There are a lot of things that can cause your issue, and throwing perfectly good money at it on a guess will only make you even more broke. Get those codes and lets see if we can make that money count.

Are you saying that a scanner will not pull any codes, even history codes? Were the codes cleared recently? If you clear the codes, you not only erase the information that might help find this fault but you reset the readiness monitors for the ODB system. Even if it was fixed you will fail emissions if the readiness monitors aren't complete. You need to go on some drive cycles to either duplicate or rule out the fault.

I am not sure about the history codes. There are no trouble codes. Are you saying I need to have a code scanner while I am driving the vehicle? Is there a cheap one I can get? I apologize for not being too smart on this subject. Frown

Your codes can be read sitting still with the key in the run position. Many parts stores will do it for you for free. If you don't have an active code it could be in history, or could be gone because that particular code takes a certain number of drive cycles to fail in order to set the code. Also not all codes will turn on the light. I'd be interested in the mode 6 data, which you can only access with a high end scanner that you don't have. The one I have was $4000. Not cheap in any sense of the word.

Wow.......As Nick already mentioned....Nox comes from combustion cambers overheating....
This something most people aren't gonna be able chase down without the right equipment & training....
Throwing parts at it is probably going to be an expensive mistake that won't fix the problem..
The best and cheapest options on this one would be to bit the bullet & let the smog shop fix this one for you...
