I have a 2000 taurus with the 24 valve dohc "s" motor. I thought I had a intake manifold leak. I was driving the car a short distance when I blow the spark plug out of the head. I don"t believe I hurt the motor, I drove it about a block. My question is there a way to helicoil the head to put the plug back in?? My goal not to take the head off unless it is absolutely necessary. Any suggestions would be great, thanks in advance.

Google Lisle ford spark plug repair and you should find a kit for that. It's more common on the 4.6 & 5.4 V/8s but they should have a kit that will work with your engine...

Is this a common problem? If so once it's repaired, is the motor still prone to this problem again?

Not so much on the Taurus motors. Mainly the 4.6 & 5.4s due to fact there is only 5 treads that hold the plug. Any engine can blow a plug if it isn't installed correctly.......... With the poor design on the 4.6 & 5.4, proper plug installation is extremely critical.

Also recommend paying the extra money and getting a shop to put heli-coil in of you never installed one before .. i've seen a couple bad jobs roll into to shop, it will be cheaper in the long run.
