I have a 2001 Dodge Durrango. About 137,000 KM. Not 100% sure, but I believe the engine is 5.9 L, V8 Magnum - it's a hand-me-down and I know absolutely nothing about cars... The problem is that the car decides to gas when I am holding the brake, say waiting at a red light, and I must put the car in park right away or it will jolt forward until I hit someone. It also likes to brake when I try to gas. For example, after it's little "let me go, I don't want to brake" saga, I will gas to go on the green light and the car will decide it wants to brake and nothing will happen. This doesn't happen all the time, maybe once every 4 days and only at one stop lights out of the 5 I arrive at during a day. Anyways, let me start off by first saying the car's Engine light has been on since we bought the car - with plenty of mechanics saying it was "nothing to worry about". It's driven wonderfully so I never thought they were lying. I drive it every day to go to school and back so I would notice the problem any day, however it only started 3-4 weeks ago, at about 136,000 KM. Nothing about the car has changed. It was at the mechanic at 133,800 KM (a few months ago), for an oil change and check up. Anyone got an idea of why the car decides to have a mind of its own every once in a while? I'm beginning to refuse driving the transformer because I might hit someone at a stop light and telling the police I was holding my brake won't do any good... Thanks.

unfortunately with having an engine light on all the time you never know when a new problem rises.. If it started doing this after you had the engine light checked out I would recommend getting the vehicle scanned again to see if there is any new codes.

Ah, I see. Makes sense. I brought it into the mechanic, after reading that, so hopefully he can fix it - for relatively cheap :P. Thanks for you help.
