2001 mercury cougar DUMPING oil Sign In

Ok so Ive had it up to here with this car.. oh yea you cant see me.. well its high!. I noticed that it was running hot today, like as hot as it can without shutting off (which has never done) so I pulled over and noticed that I had oil all over my passenger tires front and back.. and there was a trail from where i had pulled in. Now im just really agaitated at the moment and its too dark out for me to see right now. so hopefully I can get some answers to give me an idea to look for in the morning.. now other than the block being cracked, what can I suspect? Ive been smelling burnt oil for sometime (bout 2 weeks) my oil light never came on until after I noticed it was every where. by that time it was too late. Now I was told that my block was cracked, and in order to get me home i put a little more oil in and ran that dog home, I was informed that once the motor cooled, it would not crack again.. luckily to my surprise. IT DID! it still cranks right up. now my husband turned the heater on to attempt to cool the motor enough to get us home but it never got hot.. which is weird because that car has awesome heat/ac I thought for sure we were going to blow a rod on the way home.. but she made it.. any ideads?

You have no heat because you have no coolant. That was a big mistake driving it home. You need to get it pressure tested and diagnosed before driving it again.

How much do you like your car? I don't understand why people will drive a car that is overheating and puking oil thinking "they can drive a few miles to get home". I've seen this scenario time and time again and it usually results in major engine damage and lots of time and money to fix.

Basically you need to find out where the oil is leaking from. There is no way we can tell you over the internet. You might have to get underneath the vehicle to see or you may have to clean off where the oil got onto to see the source. Either way it is up to you or your mechanic to determine the source of the leak.

That's debatable judging by the decisions you have made so far.

You can't imagine how many times I have heard that exact explanation while I was handing someone a $4000 estimate because they ruined their engine.

Guess "we" don't know what a flashlight is either - huh?

OK, not even mechanical now about this. You hate this car and trust me it isn't offended or care at all whether you walk or drive. You drove it like that one more foot was enough now it will decide for you what it wanted to destroy.

Well, it probably going to cost a lot of money to fix. You won't know what is wrong until it is inspected. You may be using a rental car or borrowing a vehicle if you don't have another vehicle. Those are the facts.

Yep, you probably turned a minor hose problem into a new motor.

You might want to compare the price of a tow and a new engine and see which one is cheaper, I'm betting on the tow truck.
