? The key itself is advertised locally to me by a specialty hardware store can duplicate so called "smart keys" or chip keys. Now so many out there surprised it took this long to NOT be dealer only. Unfortunately this can't mean they can do all and no doubt need ONE you have that works. Sure - they can be pricey. Haven't had the need for anyone or they just paid the ransom of a dealer? Ask or look around about it. Bold sign at front door "Do-It-BEST" chain of hardware stores not all can do any. I keep forgetting to ask and there all the time - my bad, T (edit) The claim was they beat the heck out of dealer prices some out of control you must know.........

Yes, most any locksmith or hardware store can duplicate and program the key. It will be pricey though. My locksmith quoted me $69. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

I'm sure the pricing varies for different key styles. This one was for an 03 Honda.

The local locksmith couldn't do it so I went over to the honda dealership and once I provided the VIN they cut and programed a key from that for $22** . The key has to be fanangled a little to work but it's brand new . This whole thing could have went a different way and worse , so I'm thankful it didn't and for the help from you guys .

Price is sure good. Question for you. What do you mean "finagled?" If you mean it doesn't like to turn and the original you hopefully gave them isn't cut right on a double sided cut turn the thing the other way up. Each cut on "double cut" keys only use one side cut to work not both to at least turn - doors, hatch or trunks, gloveboxes or whatever uses the same. I've owned to dang many vehicles many all at once if just plain double cut, ask them to cut one side for one vehicle and the other for another vehicle so I don't have to carry so dang many keys! Also hide-a-set things hidden as I do just cut for another vehicle with the same cut sometimes. So if one way up works and other side you fuss with they screwed up cutting it and I'd keep it if allowed but if key not the cylinder does this they owe you another try, T

the one my son uses is worn , the new one just has to be jiggled to make it work , the dealer cut it from the VIN number ,, I'll take it back sometime and I think they buff it up a little to remove any burrs , I want a back up in case he loses his key again , ,, When we bought the car last year the guy gave us 3 , my son lost the first one so I gave him one of the others , the one I kept as a spare had the most meat on it so I figured I'd have any spares cut from it , thats the one I would use occasionally to move the car for the alternate parking on our street , of course it wouldn't start and when we went back with the good key it would fire right up , If I had given him the one I kept I would have been trying to trouble shoot something that didn't exist . But yeah , $22 , don't fear the dealer .

Doesn't matter what they cut it from - another or just found which # the tumblers are. If it doesn't turn - never mind start for now - and have to fuss/jiggle you are just adding a little aggravation to tumblers and extra wear on them is all I would worry about if used all the time. I've taken some apart and just removed an odd tumbler and voila - another vehicle's key turned or arrange them is what locksmiths are doing in a common one. I've keyed alike door in my home and so forth. Cars: There should be six or seven tumblers. That # alone is enough so you don't end up with many alike out of millions of vehicles plus any chip wouldn't start but would steer and shift to tow it - I know you aren't worried about it being stolen. Just trying to save you needing the whole thing any earlier maybe two keys to use the car and another for other locks. Don't worry about it if you are happy it's done. I just wanted you to test it upside down and see if cut is different it should work both ways the same. If better one way than the other it wasn't cut well is all or we used punches once from #s not grind them at all but had to clamp the blank in the exact right spot, Tom

I took the key back to the honda dealer and told them the problem , the guy said he ran it over the wire wheel and that's all they could really do , I don't force it and I can get it to work , it's a back up and not used all the time , it is what it is .

Why would an immobilizer issue cause a no spark??? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Could it be that it disables the PGM-FI relay which in turn kills the PCM which controls ignition? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

There are two main relays. Main relay 1 is used to supply power to the PCM, the fuel injectors, CKP, CMP, and IAC. It is also used to supply power to the Immobilizer control unit receiver. Main relay 2 supplies power to the fuel pump. In the previous description of the immobilizer circuit, it states in theft mode that relay 2 is turned off to kill fuel to the engine. Ignition coil power comes directly from the ignition switch through fuse 1. Ignition coils are not powered via PGM relays. If relay 1 is on, you have power to the coils from the ignition switch, and you have cam and crank sensor signals getting to the PCM, the PCM is powered up and functioning correctly, and you don't have wiring issues in the ignition control circuits, you should have spark even if the immobilizer is active. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I see what you're saying. Too bad they don't call PGM-FI relay 2 what it really is................ a fuel pump relay.
