2002 pontiac grand am won't start. Sign In

Engin size is 2.2 and the mileage is a little over 100k. I was dropping the wife off to work yesterday and the fule light came on. I drove home with the intent to get more gas on my way to pick her back up seeing how i live a block away from the gas station. when i got into the car it wouldn't start. I assumed i must have run out of gas so i walked to the gass startion and bought two gallons to put in. After putting in the gas it still would not start. It will turn over and try to start and sometimes the engine will even rumbles like it's started but quickly dies. I'v had a few friends tell me it may be the fule filter but aside from changing the oil and simple things like that i know about nothing of cars.

Please help Unsure

In tank fuel pumps are cooled and lubricated by the fuel in the tank. When you run a car out of gas, it pumps a lot of air through the pump which overheats it and causes some severe wear and many times, failure when they cool off.
You will need to use a fuel pressure gauge to verify this

I didn't say the problem was the gauge. The gauge is the tool to test the fuel pressure to determine if you have ruined your fuel pump.

Agree with Hammer. Oh, and by the way, there is a free spell check at the lower right corner of the screen.
