2003 Ford Escape missing when accelerating Sign In

I have a 2003 Ford Escape with the 6 cyl engine, 208,000+ miles, all highway miles, normal maintenance

About a week ago I noticed that it has developed a slight "miss" mostly while accelerating

I noticed it once while idling.

It will only buck 2-3 times and then run normal

I haven't noticed it while maintaining highway speed.

Can yall give me an idea where to start my troubleshooting?
run some injector cleaner?
fuel filter?
Plugs? wires?

I thought it was a batch of bad gas so I drew the tank down and have run 2 more tanks through it but it still misses.

fguedry; Your Escape has OBDII capabilities. It will store misfire codes. Have the codes retrieved and post them here. You may want to try some gas drier. NAPA stores sell a product that, in my opinion, is the best. (Thermo-Aid) If the misfire doesn't 'last long enough' the computer may not 'see' it? You could, very easily, have a plug or a wire breaking down under load. Or, an injector that needs cleaning or replacement. Get us any codes that are stored and we can go from there.

Since your car has a "coil on plug" system, it has a separate coil for each cylinder and does not have plug wires. They are pretty notorious for weak coils acting up but worn plug will make it worse. As Loren stated, the computer should store codes that will identify the bad cylinders and you will likely have to change the coil for that cylinder plus all the plugs if they are due.

It showed no codes when put under the machine

I am going to change out the plugs to see what I can see

I'll yell back after I get it done

As HT mentioned that is a coil over system, while you're changing the plugs you might what to change the coil boots as well, another weak area..............

An Escape that is missing........ No offense but there has got to be a joke in there somewhere.......Tongue Sly
