I have a 2003 Monte Carlo with 90,000 kilometres. I was on the highway and the connector rod let go blowing the engine block and the starter (no power, steering or brakes). Needless to say the engine is toast. A week prior I had it at the same dealership fixing the rear main seal. They claim it is not related. I had my car repaired (by someone else) and they tell me the flywheel bolts are sheared. They would have worked on it to change the rear main seal. Hard to prove they are related.

It's related! A leaking rear main seal would require removing the ring gear/flywheel and a leak by itself would not shear off bolts. Are you looking to have a place take responsibility for this now? You are right as it will be hard to prove anything and IMO needing a rear main seal job is an indication of prior maintenance abuse but that would not shear off bolts, T
