My 2005 Buick Lesabre runs good & then the engine boggs down like it wants to die and then all of a sudden it surges forward fast and then drives good again until it starts to surge again. Earlier it would start surging when I came to a stop sign but now it starts surging while I'm driving. I've had it in & out of the shop since Nov. & they still can't figure it out. I have Multiple Sclerosis and I really need my vehicle to get around. I would more than greatly appreciate any info you could give me! Thank you so much for your time!

I've had this problem before on that engine and it turned out to be a bad Mass Air Flow sensor.

I had a 2003 Impala that at idle would surge really high, never did it driving....it was the knock sensor. to expand on what HT said there is MAF cleaner, that you can squirt on the inside of the MAF, the sensors get covered with crud, you also might have an air leak after the MAF too. the MAF tells ur car computer how much air is coming in so if you add extra air downstream past the MAF the Ox sensors may be trying to compensate for an over lean condition ...so the surge. did you have any work done under the hood lately, maybe someone did not put back everything right? also check your air filter is not clogged. also ur car is 19 years old, a lot of the rubber ducting from the airbox to the MAF then to the throttle body gets dry and may be leaking.
