2005 T&C missfire 3.3l

The van stalled while driving it and then did not want to start back up at first. Finally it started but had the misfire with CEL and overheating. CEL read random/multiple misfire and cylinder 6 misfire. Replaced plugs and wires and coil. Still missing with occasional exhaust noise and crazy vibration while idling in gear, especially reverse. Now it will also stall in reverse. Erased CEL, keeps coming back with cylinder 6 miss, sometimes with the random/multiple code and sometimes not. The cylinder 6 wire has spark and the plug has spark. If I pull the wire off the plug with the engine on, there is no change in the engine. Pull any other wire and it's noticeably missing. Any help or suggestions would be great!

The first step should be to check compression on that cylinder and the rest if you find a problem with that cylinder. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Thought so. If that cylinder is bad and the rest aren't? What should they test at?

You need at least 120-130 to run decent.

So if it tests low only on six, what would I be looking at fixing?

Diagnostics - suggest you look at overheating issue first - loosing coolant? pressure test system look for leak. coolant mixed with oil? If engine is hard turning over maybe remove plugs esp #6 and crank engine. check for head gasket failure indicators. NEXT #6 misfire - you have spark good - IS the INJECTOR pulsing use a noid light? Some DIYer will swap injector to another cylinder I question the time vs cost of a new inj maybe look at plug is it wet or black? do a compression test - post results.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I did a few more things and have some more info. I started checking the cooling system, opened the radiator cap after the van had been sitting for a few days and the radiator was still under some pressure. Started it up and watched the coolant and the level started rising pretty quickly. There is now white smoke coming from the exhaust and it faintly smells of coolant. I just did a compression test on 2 cylinders, #4 and #6. #4 tested at 150~ and #6 at 60~. The #6 plug also has, what smells like gas, on the end.

It's looking a lot more like I was correct and you'll be looking for an engine.

Because you don't know how much damage was done to the lower end. It is highly likely that overheating is what caused the failure in the upper end. You could spend $1000 doing the heads only to find out the engine will now blow oil past the rings due to the damage to the lower end and increased compression from doing the heads. A used engine is usually the safer and more reliable way to go.

It would also be important to figure out why it overheated in the first place. Usually head gaskets blowing and heads cracking is the effect. You need to find the cause or your repair won't last. Check for coolant leaks, faulty radiator, and/or cooling fan issues. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

It was the radiator that caused the overheating issues. I replaced that. Forgot to mention it.

Apparently you continued to drive it with the radiator problem which is what put you in this position now. You are about to learn a lesson that people have to learn the hard way every day. The tow truck is far cheaper than the new engine.

I drove nothing. It's my mom's van. She said she continued to just keep coolant in it. She said it never overheated until after it stalled on her the first time.

We now know that was not true. It definitely overheated. Once you lose coolant, your temp gauge isn't accurate any more.

The sensor is designed to read the temp of coolant, not air. Once it's not submerged in coolant, it reads cool.
