Our vehicle is a 2008 GMC Acadia SLT-2 with a tow package and a 3.6L DOHC V6 engine with 153,885mi on it. I have a FIXD scanner and in the last year it has shown cylinder misfire code P0300, ignition coil 3 control circuit code P0353 and exhaust camshaft position code P0014. Last week I found oil on the spark plug for cylinder 3, as a precaution I disconnected the cylinder 3 coil pack which I'm not entirely sure if that was a smart decision. I brought the car to a mechanic and he said it is misfiring on the 1,3 and 5 cylinders and that he could replace the timing chain, but with the cost of the timing chain kit, the labor and the possibility that the engine is now bad, he recommended to keep the oil level full and trade the car in. Does anyone think that the engine is truly shot and not worth replacing the timing chain? I really love this car and i really want to be sure that NOT fixing it is the right move. Are the 2008 acadias a subject to the engine control module and oil life monitor reprogramming issue and is anyone familiar with the VVt solenoid being the issue?

If there is any question about the health of the engine, take a compression test. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
