2018 Kia soul. Knocking while accelerating. Sign In

Hello, my 2018 Kia soul started making this knocking noise today when I would accelerate. Did a little research online some said blown head gasket, bad spark plugs, or clogged catalytic converter. Only knocks when I’m accelerating. Never overheated. No thick oil, no white smoke out of tailpipe. Coolant cap clean. That’s really all I checked. No engine light on. Noticed when I was idling car would start to shake, not crazy but I could feel it. If anyone could give any advice I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you.

Are you sure the noise is actually coming from the engine and not other areas of the drive train?

Hi, thank you for the reply. It sounds like it was coming from under the car so I had my grandpa rev the engine. Can’t really tell. Opened up the hood and I rev the engine and my grandpa said he could be it more around the engine. When it’s idling you can’t hear it. Only when I rev the engine up.

If you hear it that way it is likely the engine making the noise.

Maybe you could post a recording of the noise but even that way it's nearly impossible to diagnose a noise over the Internet.

No, there are plenty of hosting sites around.

how many miles do u have on the car? you can have a blown head gasket between the cylinder and the outside, not too common, usually they are between 2 cylinders, or the water jacket/oil passage. usually a blown head gasket does not make any noise...usually a pin size leak. could be ur exhaust system, probably leaky exhaust manifold gasket., look around the exhaust manifold for blow by. if it's real bad and it's the exhaust manifold it will eventually set the CEL as too lean, if it's a "V" motor it will say which bank.

I had a malibu that was making a thumping noise and was not sure it was the motor. I removed the serpentine belt and started the car. I already had the hood open, went around and listened under the hood for 10 seconds...no longer.... no thumping...so was not the motor...turned out to be the power steering pump.
