86 camaro problems

i have a 1986 camaro z28 its a 305 with tuned port injection i just rebuilt the engine and it has a hard time idiling at low rpms at high rpms it runs very smooth i had to advance the timing is advanced almost 90 degrees and if i try to adjust it the car wont start at all any information would be greatly appricated

Are you sure you have the timing chain and gears installed correctly? Sounds like you don't have the timing marks lined up on assembly. If you have to turn the distributor 90 degrees, either the gears are installed wrong, or the distributor is incorrectly installed. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
