91 honda civic Sign In

i have a 91 honda civic and when the engine heats up the coolant fills the coolant resevoir and pops the cap off it the temp gauge says it is running at normal temp any ideas

Is the coolant full at the radiator. Odd that temp reads normal for this??

Sound like a head gasket ,some times the honda will not read on the gauge when the water leavel is to low
crazy but true,
but before removing the heads to repair ,pressure test your rad cap should not be below 9 lbs .
