I have a 92 Pontiac Transport 3.8 engine (3800) 200,000 kms. When I last drove it the engine light came on then it quietly died - no chugging or missing - just smoothly lost power. Now it won't start. I checked the fuel pump and it spits out gas. I also have spark coming from the plugs. It cranks and turns over smoothly but just won't start. There is a 3/4 tank of gas in it and no water. I replaced ALL the fuses just in case. Can anyone help this single Granny? My garage in Canada wants $150 to scope it plus repair costs. If it is a simple sensor I can repair it myself. TY in advance Anna

There aren't many sensors that will actually cause a "no start". Just spitting out gas is not a sufficient check. The engine requires a specific fuel pressure and that has to be tested using a fuel pressure gauge. You also need to test for injector pulse using a noid light bulb. Here is the fuel pressure spec. It HAS toi be within these parameters. Ignition ON Engine OFF 40.5 to 47.0 psi ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Apparently, you are just not in a position to diagnose this problem yourself in that case. I can't make the diagnosis any less technical. Your just going to have to pay someone with the right tools and ability to test these things. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

ty for your time...a freind of mine knew someone who was a mechanic. he said I have to replace the control module...I forget which one...but he said he would do it for the same price it would have cost me just to throw it on the scope machine.

Make sure he knows what he's talking about. That doesn't seem to add up.
