Ive recently been having troubles with my 92 sunbird, i dont want to give it to the junk yard so please help me make it better. about a month ago, my timing chain had broke, up to that point I had been experiencing problems with noise and lack of power, when the chain broke I towed into a shop and they replaced the chain, it turned out it was the dampener on the chain guide that caused the break. The fix had partially restored some compression and performance but not to where it should be. after i got it home i changed my plugs and wires, that too helped, but again, not enough. The other problem is the idle, while driving it wants to go in between 3 and 4 thousand rpm and while stopped about 700 to 1000 rpm, barely enough to keep the engine running. I basically have no control of the rpm's. The noise is another problem, It just sounds rough. I do not trust any of the mechanic shops in my area, considering the one I went to is the best in the area and he admitted he doesnt know enough about these cars. There is not a gm dealership in my area so im forced to try to figure things out on my own. I will do almost anything for your advice, I do trust you.

I believe the 3.1 crashes valves into the cylinders when the chain is off or broken. Generally that renders the engine junk! It's bareley worth fixing if that happened. A compression test is in order the fix is a good used or new engine!!!!! Arggh, hope it's not that bad,
