Thanks in advance for any help! I have a 96 Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton 4X4 with a 350 engine. The problem is that it will not start unless you give it a shot of ether. Once it starts you and continue to restart it over and over. Let it sit for an hour and no fire. It runs and drives fine once it starts, so I am getting gas and spark. I have put on a new fuel filter. It has newer plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Has a newer starter. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave

You need to test your fuel pressure in the AM using an accurate gauge. This is a common symptom with low fuel pressure. This engine requires a minimum of 55 PSI. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Would this be from the fuel regulator or the fuel pump? I can hear the pump run and stop when the key is turned on and it stops like the pressure is up.

That has nothing to do with pressure. The pump primes for a 2 second period, regardless of pressure. If the pressure is low, then you will have to determine the reason at that point. You will find a place to pinch off the return line and see if the pressure spikes then to indicate the regulator is at fault. If not, the pump is at fault.
