just bought a 96 chevy tahoe with a 5.7. 4x4. I have done a tune up complete with plugs, wires, oil change, k&n, & fuel filter. Didnt go cheap on any of it. But I am still getting terrible gas mileage. roughly 10 mpg. It has a rough idle and i do smell fuel in the oil. I have also had a mechanic hook it up to a cpu to try and get an idea of where to start and it said misfireing randomly. (And ABS, but thats not the big issue) Any thoughts? Or should i just go to a dealership and have them take a look. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did it have the rough idle before this tune-up? They didn't notice either way? Fuel smell in oil is hard to know. That gas mileage could be normal depending on how you drive. I have the same engine an can get 17+ steady on HWY but less than 10 with just the 3 to 5 mile round trips I normally use it for. This engine is noted for intake manifold gasket problems most have been coolant leaks though. A vacuum leak could cause the random misfire and not sure but might fool the ABS and did in another make of vehicle. Fuel injector leaking could cause the misfire also, T
