This truck has the 4x4 and V6 vortec motor. Recently the lower intake gasket was blown. I replaced the gasket with a new one. Now it has a tick/knock in the motor and the oil is dark black after just running it for 25 miles. The oil pressure gauge is reading way above the max, but i figured that was just because i didnt hook up all the electrical correctly. You can smell it burning oil. The engine temp stays where it is supposed to be and the coolant no longer leaks. I am guessing that the tick/knock is a cyclinder that is mis-firing? Thanks for your time

How did you reset the distributor?

That accounts for the rotor but what about the position of the rotation of the housing?

Is the check engine light coming on when running? If so, scan for codes and post the numbers here.

How would I set the position of the totation of the housing?

And the check engine light flashes. I was told that is a Type A misfire? I will try to get a scanner, but i do not have one at the moment.

I'm afraid you're going to have to get your hands on a high end professional scanner. That's the only way to get that distributor in synch with the crank sensor. It's called setting the Cam offset. Turning that distributor does not change the timing. It only throws the primary out of synch with the secondary and the injector timing.
