HI, I HAVE A 99 CHEVY SUBURBAN 1500 2WD 5.7L OVER 187,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD IT ONLY A YEAR WITH NO PROBLEMS. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO I NOTICED THAT IT WOULD JUST CUT OFF ON ME BUT WOULD CRANK RIGHT BACK UP.IT HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL TIMES BUT WOULD CRANK BACK UP.SINCE IT WOULD PUFF OUT A LITTLE BLACK SMOKE AND IT IS OVER TEN YEARS OLD,I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST CARBON BUILD UP. I CHANGED ALL THE SPARK PLUGS WITH DOUBLE PLATINUM PLUGS(DON`T HAVE TO GAP THESE).NEW WIRES, ROTOR AND CAP ALL EXCEPT FOR THE IGNITION COIL AND THE OXYGEN SENSOR. I ALSO PUT ON A NEW FUEL FILTER, AND RELAY SWITCH ,FUEL PUMP WORKS FINE.ALL WAS GOOD UNTIL SATURDAY MORNING ON MY WAY TO THE STORE IT JUST SHUT OFF, IT HESITATED FOR A MINUTE THEN STARTED RIGHT UP DROVE FINE. THEN YESTERDAY IT DID IT AGAIN THIS TIME WHEN I TURNED THE KEY SLOW DRAGGING LIKE THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. NEW BATTERY NEW ALT.TURNING THE KEY USUALLY THE DASH LIGHTS UP NOT THIS TIME,THOUGHT IT WAS STRANGE. FOUND SOMEONE TO GIVE ME A JUMP, WITH EACH KEY TURN DASH DID NOT LIGHT UP SLOW TURNING OF MOTOR. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN NO MORE SLOW DRAGGING, BUT DASH STILL DID NOT LIGHT UP. WE LET IT CHARGE FOR 10 MINUTES, TRUCK SAT UP FOR ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES IN ALL BEFORE I COULD GET A JUMP OFF.BUT AFTER 10 MIN CHARGING BOOM IT FIRED RIGHT UP NO PROBLEM.WHEN I MADE IT HOME AND TURNED OFF THE TRUCK IT DIED AGAIN.IT TURNED FAST BUT WOULD`NT FIRE ,I NOTICED THAT IT WOULD ONLY CRANK IF THE DASH WAS LIT AS IN BRAKE, SECURITY,AIR BAG LIGHTS WERE ON THE USUAL LIGHTS WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY .CHECKED TO SEE IF I COULD HEAR THE PUMP,WORKING FINE, NO FUEL ODOR OR NOTHING.LET IT SIT FOR AN HOUR FIRED ON UP NO PROBLEM.FIRE UP THIS MORNING AS WELL, DROVE TO WORK,BUT WHEN I TRIED TO GO TO LUNCH NOTHING NO DASH LIGHT UP/NO CRANK.4 HOURS LATER FIRED RIGHT UP DROVE FINE. MY QUESTION IS COULD THE IGNITION COIL,OR OXYGEN SENSOR GOING BAD CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN. PLEASE HELP . FRED
