Okay I have a 2005 Dodge Neon SXT version. The engine size I'm not positive on, but it's listing it as L4-122ci 2.01F/I Vin C???? it's the listing on discount advance's site. But ya, ok my alternator finally failed on me. it was still the orgingal alternator. so we bought a new one. installed it our self. we made sure the main power wire and the other wire with the plastic connector were connected properly. the battery light still came on. so we replaced the battery, and the light still came on. so we thought that the alternator might be faulty because it was a rebuilt alternator. it was not recharging the battery. period. so we got a brand new alternator had it tested before we got it. reinstalled it and now the battery light still comes on. i personally think its a short in a wire but im not a mechanic. i just put two and two together and guess. please help.

It's time to go back to step one where you should have started. Get a digital voltmeter and test the charging voltage at idle with all accessories off. You should have between 13.5 and 14.8 volts. If you don't have that, check for power at the main terminal of the alternator with the key OFF. If no power there, check the fusible links and maxi fuses. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
