Cadillac CTS 2003 3.2l Throttle Body Assembly Sign In

Ist time mechanic wants advice on replacing my CTS Throttle Body Assembly. Do I need a dealers screwdriver to undo the four bolts. (Can't see down the tunnel) does anyone have access to the GM service manual pages on this? How about any grease/sealer around new seals? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Ford T
Newbie... Wanna be mechanic... I took woodworking in HS. Loved it, used it my whole life. My regret is that I didn't also take automotive 101! You're never too old to learn!

Throttle Body Assembly Replacement Removal Procedure
  1. Partially drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.

  2. Disconnect the air intake duct hoses from the throttle body.

  3. Disconnect the following from the throttle body:
  4. - The surge tank inlet hose - The throttle body heater hose - The fuel pressure regulator atmospheric vent tube

  5. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector (2) from the throttle body (1).

  6. Remove the throttle body assembly mounting bolts.

  7. Remove the throttle body assembly from the following:
  8. - The intake plenum - The vacuum fittings

  9. Remove and discard the following:
  10. - The throttle body O-ring seals (1) - The vacuum fitting O-ring seals
Installation Procedure

  1. Position the throttle body O-ring seals (1) to the grooves in the throttle body.
  2. Lightly lubricate the vacuum fitting O-rings with clean engine oil.
  3. Install the vacuum fitting O-rings to the vacuum fittings.

  4. Simultaneously position the throttle body assembly to the following:
  5. - The intake plenum - The vacuum fittings
Caution! Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

  6. Install the throttle body assembly mounting bolts.

  7. Tighten
Tighten the throttle body assembly mounting bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  8. Connect the throttle body electrical connector (2) to the throttle body (1).

  9. Connect the following to the throttle body:
  10. - The surge tank inlet hose - The throttle body heater hose - The fuel pressure regulator atmospheric vent tube

  11. Connect the air intake duct hoses to the throttle body.
  12. Perform the idle learn procedure. Refer to Idle Learn Procedure .
  13. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.

Idle Learn
The engine control learns the idle position of the throttle body for correct operation. When the throttle body or ECM is replaced, this procedure must be performed to ensure correct idle operation. The engine idle may be unstable or a DTC may set if the idle position has not been learned.
Perform the following procedure in order to allow the ECM to learn the idle position:
  1. Ensure that the following conditions are met:
  2. The vehicle speed is 0 mph.The accelerator pedal angle is less than 14.9 percent. The battery voltage is more than 10 volts. The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is between 5-60°C (41-140°F).The intake air temperature (IAT) is more than 5-60°C (41-140°F).
  3. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 1 minute.
  5. Turn OFF the ignition.
  6. Clear DTCs as necessary.

You didn't mention why you're replacing the Throttle Body Assy but there is a TSB out
Figured I'd let you know about it in case it applies........

Subject:Intermittent No Power MIL With TPS TAC TCM DTCs Set - keywords PIINSI 3.2L acceleration check connector contamination display driveability DTC ECM engine hard harness hesitate hesitation idle #PIP3370A - (04/25/2007) Models:2003 Cadillac CTS

This PI was superseded to update part numbers. Please discard PIP3370.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Concern on the 2003 Cadillac CTS of a lack of power, stalls or when pressing down on the accelerator pedal the vehicle will not accelerate.

This condition can be intermittent or have the MIL "On" with ECM, TPS, TCM and TAC DTCs with a reduction in engine power message displayed on the IPC.

Recommendation/Instructions:

The diagnostics may lead you to replace the TPS which is part of the throttle body assembly. The concern may not be with the throttle body assembly.

The concern may be with the engine harness connector and terminals to the throttle body assembly.

Before replacement of the throttle body assembly, check the engine harness connector and wire terminals to the throttle body assembly and replace as necessary.

Refer to SI Document ID # 303631, testing for intermittent and poor connections and SI Document # 303628, for testing for electrical intermittent.
Engine harness connector pigtail part numbers GM 15306420 or Saturn 15318094 are available.

Engine harness connector terminal part number (six are needed) 9628855 are also available and can be located in electrical terminal kit (Yazaki Tray 15 position 13).

Use self-sealing connectors to make the connection and do not solder the wires. Refer to SI Document ID # 303648, splicing copper wire using splice sleeves.
Throttle body assembly part number 09128412. Refer to SI Document ID # 799178, throttle body assembly replacement and SI document number 799179, for throttle body service.
Note: GM dealers must call a Saturn dealer to order part number 15318094, if the GM part number 15306420 is not available.
For additional information on the TAC system, refer to SI Document ID # 820892, for TAC system description of operation.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
