Car not starting in park Sign In

I put my car in park tried starting car.It made no noise,so I took it out of park and put back in park 3 times it finally started. Doesnt happen all the time.I have a 2000 buick regal. Do you have any idea why this might happen

Could be a problem with the range switch on the transaxle, but voltage tests would have to be done on the starting circuit to confirm that. The voltage measurements need to be done while the problem is occurring.

1st: make sure the car is in park. I've made the mistake before of shutting my car off without putting it in park. It key won't turn unless its in Park, or Nuetral. (this only applies if its an automatic transmission)

2nd, try jiggling the steering wheel. Sterring wheels lock when the key is not in the ignition, this helps prevent people from hot-wireing cars and driving them away without ever having the key. Sometimes this can make it hard to turn the key. Just shake the wheel side to side a bit (it probably won't move more than a half inch) and try to turn the key.
