The car is a 1990 Oldsmobile cutlass 2.5 carbarated 4 banger 3 speed automatic. The transmission has always made a lite ticking sound that a mechanic told me is due to the plastic gears rattling loosely. Is there anything i need to tighten to get the annoying rattling to stop? its not audible while driving at 20 mph+ but while idealing or driving slow its quite loud. Never have. Maybe he's referring to the speedo drive if this has a mechanical cable. Carbs went the way of the dodo in 1986 due to emissions regs. You have TBI. If the motor visibly shakes I'd look for a bad motor mount, and with the age of this car also check the exhaust heat shields. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
