need advice: car was running OK, then engine stopped running.
went to start, could not, but battery good. with help of Tow truck driver
battery pack, engine started, but very loud noise, like rod broken?
towed to dealer, said sounds like "spun bearing" but to breakdown engine,
1200.00. then if it needs new GM engine, 6800.00. YIKES!!!
Does it make sense to rebuild existing engine(if I can get someone else to do it) or get a rebuilt
other than the GM engine. Is it worth it to try to find someone to rebuild existing engine.
Have heard couple stories to "go get different rebuilt engine, etc.
2006 Chev Impala, 3.5L engine.

No, it doesn't make sense to try to repair your engine. You could have Crankshaft or block damage to make it impractical. Their price however is a bit much also. You are better off at a "reputable" independent shop to install either a used engine or a remanufactured long block.
