Hey a coworker of mine has a 2004 Ford Freestar with a 4.2L V6 - His Buddy played a prank on him and unplugged the wire from Cylinder #4 to scare him, since it has been plugged back in the engine has had a misfire that is inconsistent, when spark tested it will spark a few times and then stop for a bit and so on. We replaced the #4 Wire and Plug - after swapping out the plug from #4 to #6 to see if the misfire was plug or wire - still was #4, To be safe we replaced both #4 and 6 spark plugs. After All that the Misfire is still present and still randomly occurring - the ignition coil was never touched until the wire replacement and Misfire monitor is not being triggered, when hooked up to the Snap on Scanner it doesn't register a single misfire while running. (During Live Data tracking)

I am at a loss and he doesn't want to send it across to the master techs yet if its something we can possibly mend

His buddy needs a good slap up aside his head.

Unplugging a spark plug without grounding the wire spikes the coil Each portion of the coil also fires 2 cylinders, not just one so he may have done some more damage. Handling and pulling an old plug wire will also break up the carbon core and ruin the wire so I would tell your buddy to have the truck repaired professionally and give his friend the bill.

We ended up having him buy a set of wires/plugs/ignition coil, Ford Master said that should probably fix it.

Wanted to say thanks for the response, coil ended up being much less than expected
